Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector is a program that allows you to search and manage WiFi wireless networks in Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
The application works as an alternative to the Windows wireless connection manager, being more complete and with a better interface. It is responsible for scanning and then displaying a list of all detected WiFi networks, including detailed information: network name (SSID), MAC address (BSSID), network type, encryption type, channel, connection quality, Performance tests, and a graph that reflects the strength of the signals during the last minutes.
: 3 types of test are included connection of quality, and speed. The first consists of the execution of several pings to the DNS server, whereas the test of speed uses the service of pingtest.net, and finally the test of speed accedes to the service provided by speedtest.net.
Wi-Fi Inspector presents a radar that is responsible for graphing the different access points found, placing closer to the center to those points with better signal quality, and therefore it is recommended to try to connect to achieve the best transmission speed. In turn, through the radar it is possible to determine the location in which the router is located and the distance to it, and if you have a laptop you know which direction you can approach to achieve a better signal.
It is important to clarify that this tool is not useful for decrypting WEP or WAP keys used to protect networks, and therefore serves only to connect to open WiFi networks. To decrypt the keys there are other programs. The application can be used to solve problems of the connection available in the home. It also helps to know if there are other users connected to the network (stealing signal).
Wi-Fi Inspector 220.127.116.11 is the latest version of this software to detect Wifi networks, which can be downloaded free. Requires Adobe Flash Player and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (or a newer version).
