MuseScore is a program to write, edit and execute music scores, being a free option to other software publishers of scores, such as Sibelius or Finale.
The program allows you to compose music easily, but it is recommended to consult the user manual. It explains how to create a new score, how to enter notes and measures, how to add instruments, how to play the written melody, and the rest of the functions.
You have the option of "Create score from scratch" and select one by one the instruments that you want to add to the score, with the possibility of establishing the order in which they will appear. In addition, you can select armatures, compass signs, anacrusas, number of measures, etc. Another option is "Create a score from a template", which can be useful for viewing quick results and testing the application.
MuseScore allows you to insert notes from a MIDI keyboard connected to the PC. The tones that are typed are being added to the new score.
The scores created are saved in a format of their own (.mcs or .mcsz if you choose to compress them), but they can be exported to other formats, for example, MusicXML which is a standard of music writing, which will Be used by other publishers. They can also be saved as MIDI (.mid) or in PDF format, in addition to FLAC, OGG, WAV, in addition to other formats.
MuseScore 1.3 is the latest version (updated in May 2013), which is free and multiplatform (Windows, Mac and Ubuntu). It is available in Spanish, Catalan and Galician, in addition to other languages.
