WhatsApp has released the official desktop version of the popular instant messaging application used in mobile phones.
With this edition it is possible to write and receive messages directly on a PC or laptop with Windows or on a Mac, something that can be very useful when working on the computer. Surely, in that case it will be more comfortable to use WhastsApp right there because it is easier to write with the physical keyboard, in addition to that usually has a wider screen than the phone.
While WhatsApp was already available on the computer via the web version (accessible via Chrome, Friefox and Opera), this desktop edition has more features available. In both cases it is necessary to have internet connection on the phone , otherwise you will not be able to send or receive messages from the PC.
After downloading and installing the executable of this program, the user will be shown a QR code with the following message: " Use WhatsApp on your phone to scan the code ". To do this you have to enter the application on the phone and go to Menu -> WhatsApp Web to activate the camera to be positioned in front of the PC screen. Once the code is in focus and read, it will enable the software that will show all the contacts, groups and other elements that can be seen usually from the cell phone.
Some of the functions available:
- Entering Menu -> View: Zoom Out or Zoom In to enlarge the text and images of a conversation.
- Entering Menu -> WhatsApp it is possible to create a new chat or a new group. The profile can be accessed to change the photo from the computer or to change the status, and also to close the session.
- Entering Menu -> Chat the user can mute groups (8 hours, 1 week, 1 year), mark conversations as unread, archive chat and delete chat (all conversations are deleted, not the group).
By clicking on the green boxes of the conversations (corresponding to the messages sent by the user), you can access the information of the outgoing message (time at which it was delivered and time it was read); While for the case of the groups these data can be obtained for each one of its members. Other available functions that can be applied for both outgoing and incoming messages are forwarding or deleting them.
During a chat with other people it is possible to send voice messages, videos, photos, etc., as is usually done. The desktop edition is synchronized with the mobile edition automatically, so you can access instantly from either device.
Increased security has recently been added and WhatsApp users are given more privacy by encrypting messages. This means that each content is encrypted in the device of the sender and is decrypted in the device of the receiver, that is, no one else will be able to read or open the contents sent (not even WhatsApp itself, telephone operators or spies).
This first version of WhatsApp for Windows 10 and 8 or for Mac OSX 10.9 or later editions can be downloaded and installed for free.
