XAMPP is an application package that allows you to install a local web server, which includes the Apache server, plus the programming languages PHP and Perl, and the database engine MariaDB.
XAMPP can be installed on Windows systems (8, 7, Vista, XP, 2003, 2000), Linux (Debian, Mandrake, RedHat and SuSE), Mac OS X, and Solaris (8 and 9). For each system are added some extra tools, such as the FileZilla FTP Server and phpMyAdmin for the Windows version. The advantage of XAMPP over Wamp, an application similar to this one, is precisely that it includes more tools and is multiplatform.
With XAMPP it is possible to mount a server capable of interpreting websites programmed in PHP with access to queries to a MariaDB database, such as the content management systems (CMS) used to manage blogs, such as WordPress. The advantage of locally (installed on the PC) the web server is that you can do tests and modifications without having to upload the files to the remote server where the site is hosted.
Although the version for Linux could be installed in a definitive web server, to leave it in production it is recommended in that case to install each package separately; It is also advisable to use this program only for testing purposes, mainly aimed at those users who want to learn how to program in PHP.
The package is very easy to install: simply unzip the file to a folder, without installing anything (it does not add entries to the Windows registry). To uninstall XAMPP simply delete that folder. The use is also simple since there is a panel to control the services. To load a page you must enter from the browser to the URL http: // localhost / followed by the path corresponding to the folder where the project was saved (by default, inside C: \ xampp \ htdocs \).
To create a new database or to manage existing ones you can access http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/, where the user will find a management panel quite intuitive.
If the user requires more information about how to install XAMPP and how to use it, you can consult the following guide in Spanish.
