Wubi (Ubuntu Desktop Edition Windows installer) is a program that allows to install Ubuntu in Windows as if it were an application more, with the advantage that it can be tested without having to make a partition on disk, and that no knowledge is required Some to start testing Linux. Ideal for beginners who want to learn Linux without complicating with their installation. In addition, it is uninstalled like any other program, easily and without any risk for Windows.
Some Linux distributions (the same Ubuntu for example) offer a Live CD operating system to test without installing, but are usually slow applications. Wubi is a better solution and a better performance. In addition it should be noted that Ubuntu has become in recent years the best distribution of Linux for desktop.
This version of Ubuntu is not a virtual machine, but is installed on an NTFS partition. To find out how Wubi is installed a manual with the corresponding instructions is available.
Wubi 14.10 is the latest version, updated in April 2015. It requires a free disk space of 5 GB (by default a partition of 17 GB is created) and works for Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
It is available in several languages (among them, Spanish) and you can download free, with the possibility of choosing Ubuntu (supports up to issue number 14.10), Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu or UbuntuStudio.
