FileZilla is a free cross-platform FTP client, highly recommended for those users who must manage websites and send content to a remote server, where the pages are hosted.
It is increasingly common for users with little computer skills to create and maintain a website, so it is necessary to use tools like FileZilla, rather intuitive, and in this case necessary to upload html files, images, or any other content To the server.
Among the main features are: In addition FTP supports FTPS (SSL / TLS) and SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol). Supports multiple platforms: Windows, Linux,*BSD, OSX among others. It is available in several languages, including Spanish. It allows the transfer of heavy files, even supporting files over 4GB. Supports IPv6.
The interface is very intuitive and the program is easy to use. The folders and files on the local machine are displayed on the one hand , and on the other hand, in the right window, folders and files on the server side. Allow "drag and drop" (drag and drop files) between both windows. At the bottom the transfer queue is shown with details of each, such as its status, time, size, etc.
As shown in the image, to configure access to a server, click on "New Site", enter a name that identifies it, and then enter the host ( server address ) provided by the hosting company, in addition to the user and password. In "Access Mode", select "Normal". In "Server Type" you must select FTP or SFTP (in case of having user privilege to do SSH), being SFTP convenient because it provides greater security in the transfers. The port number to enter depends on whether it is FTP or SFTP, but in case of doubt the provider can be consulted.
Filezilla allows you to edit files from the server list, without explicitly downloading them, but editing a temporary copy, and once made the changes you have the option to rewrite it automatically, without having to upload the file manually.
An interesting and very useful function is to compare folders between the server and what is stored locally. You can see the highlighted files whose size or date differs, to see if it is necessary to synchronize them.
For more information you can consult the documentation available on the official site of the project.
Filezilla 220.127.116.11 is the latest version, updated in December 2016. This program has been periodically renewed and improved significantly, with the advantage that supports both Windows (32-bit or 64-bit systems), Linux and Mac OS X.
