Balabolka is a program that converts text into voice, able to read web pages (HTML), Word documents (DOC and RTF), PDF books and other sources. It allows you to read documents written at the moment by the user or copied from another source, using the notepad or any other editor.
The reading of the texts that the application makes can be heard while the color of the text changes, to indicate where it goes. You can also record that reading in various audio formats: MP3, WAV, WMA and OGG, which makes it possible for any audio player to open them.
This program can be useful for people with visual problems, who have difficulty reading text directly on the PC monitor. It can also be useful for learning languages, appreciating the correct pronunciation of words that appear in a text. The tool supports several languages: American English, British English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, German and Japanese, among others.
There are links to the voices in different languages on the author's page. In Spanish there is a voice known as Isabel, which can be downloaded from the same official page of the application (You must search for "Voices of RealSpeak TTS (free voices)" and download the file corresponding to the Spanish language). After downloading and installing Balaboka, you can add this voice: for this you must unzip the RSSolo4Spanish.zip file and run RSSolo4SpanishVirginie.exe . In the menu you must select: Options -> Voices: Isabel (Spanish) or ScanSoft Isabel_Dri40_16kKz.
Isabel, like other voices for other languages belong to RealSpeak, and are free voices, as are the voices of Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice. There are other commercial voices of better quality such as: NextUp.com, Acapela Group, AT & T Natural Voices, SVOX, among others.
Balabolka 2.11 (184.108.40.2066) is the latest version, updated in July 2016, of this software for Windows that you can download free of charge.
