7-Zip is a program to compress and decompress files that uses a high compression ratio. For ZIP and GZIP files it is able to get a ratio of up to 10% better than other programs like WinZip, while using its native 7z format improves the performance of files by up to 70% compared to ZIP format.
Among the formats supported for both compression and decompression are: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR, while for decompressing only: RAR, CAB, ARJ, LZH, WIM, Z, CPIO, ISO, NSIS, CHM, MSI, RPM and DEB.
7-Zip automatically integrates to the Windows context menu, so when you right click on any file or folder you will be able to access this application.
7-Zip 16.04 is the latest stable version, updated in October 2016, with more features and supported file types. It has ceased to be beta after a few months of testing.
This program is a good alternative to the popular Winzip and Winrar as it is totally free .
