We have reached the point we do not know how many times we have heard the rumor of the arrival of the devices with flexible displays, a rumor that arises from time to time since 2012, when Samsung introduced this Project Youm. This project evolved into Project Valley, and through it met the first prototype of a smartphone that unfolds to become tablet.
After all this, we've seen rumors of LG, prototypes Oppo and even Lenovo, and where the same Samsung has appeared from time to time, especially with the alleged promise that this year will be flexible displays in smartphones. But now the rumor comes from two major sources: on one side The Korea Herald and the other Evan Blass (the famous @evleaks), who claim that this 2017 Samsung and LG will show its first commercial devices with flexible displays
Will 2017 be the year of flexible smartphones?
According to reports, Samsung started working since last August 2016 on a smartphone that unfolds to become 7- inch tablet, which coincides with the rumor Bloomberg last year. Today we have new data that point to that 2017 is still the launch year and we even talk about a production of 100,000 devices for this third quarter.
The Korea Herald mentions that the release is not yet 100% sure, as the company is studying marketing and profitability issues, in addition to continue to assess the consequences of the crisis Galaxy Note 7. In the coming days the company will make a reorganization in their IT and mobile, which will be decisive for the future launch of this device with flexible display, where already met the patent that will play the folding system.
On the other hand we have the case of LG, who also would be making 100,000 flexible devices, only that they would see the light in the fourth quarter of this year. And unlike Samsung, we are more likely to see these devices, as the company has been working on them for more than three years, so they are currently in the final tests.
If all goes according to plan during the next MWC in late February, the two companies would be in a position to show progress of this technology, and even the final product would come towards the end of the year.
